The History of our Firm
Our founding partner was John Charles (J.C.) Dort. J.C. was born in 1857 near Delevan, Wisconsin. At the end of the Civil War, J.C. and his family settled on a farm east of Pawnee City. J.C. operated a general merchandise business in Burchard, Nebraska under the business name Dort & Lloyd. He later began studying law and was admitted to the practice of law in 1895. For a short time, J.C. practiced law in Burchard before eventually moving his practice to Pawnee City.
In 1921, J.C. joined with two other attorneys to form Dort, Cain, and Dort. The founding members being J.C. Dort of Pawnee City, J.B. Cain and C.L. Dort of Falls City. The firm maintained offices in both Pawnee City and Falls City. Also that year, J.C. Dort hired Elmer Witte of Lincoln to assist with his practice in Pawnee City. Eventually the Pawnee City office changed it's name to Dort & Witte while the Falls City office remained Dort, Cain & Dort. J.C. Dort passed away on March 4, 1952.
Elmer Witte later hired Michael Donahue, a Pawnee City High School graduate. Michael joined the firm in 1962 after practicing for a few years in Omaha. The firm changed names again, becoming Witte & Donahue. Michael Donahue served as the Pawnee County Attorney from 1964 until 1976 and as Pawnee City Attorney from 1972 to 1991.
In 1973, Vic Faesser joined the firm, and the name eventually changed to Witte, Donahue, & Faesser PC. Vic served as Pawnee County Attorney from 1987 until 2012 and as Humboldt City Attorney from 2004 until 2016. Elmer Witte passed away in 1983, and Michael Donahue's son, Michael J. Donahue III, joined the firm in 1991. The firm's name subsequently changed again to Donahue & Faesser PC, LLO. The senior member of the firm, Michael Donahue, passed away in 2014, and in 2017, Emily Sisco joined the firm as a new partner.
In 2022, Victor Faesser retired from the firm and became Of Counsel. The firm name was updated to Donahue & Sisco, PC, LLO.
